Crossroads Arts District – Creative Kansas City

The Crossroads Arts District is where Kansas City feels creative, urban and easy to explore without a fixed plan. Galleries helped establish the area’s identity, but today food, drinks, murals, shops and entertainment are equally good reasons to visit.

Art beyond museums

Look for galleries and public art as you walk. Events and exhibitions change, so the district rewards repeat visits and a little spontaneity.

Eat and drink

Crossroads has become a strong dining and drinking area, with restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and bars spread through converted commercial and industrial spaces.

Specific businesses change, which is why I prefer recommending the district rather than giving you a rigid list of addresses.

Day and night

Visit during the day for galleries, shops and coffee, then return or stay into the evening for restaurants and entertainment. The atmosphere shifts as the day progresses.

Combine it with central sights

Crossroads sits conveniently between other major Kansas City areas and works well alongside Union Station, downtown or a streetcar journey.

Do not arrive expecting one landmark that explains the whole neighborhood. The attraction is the collection of smaller places.

Walk a few blocks, follow whatever catches your eye and let Crossroads provide the unscheduled part of your Kansas City visit.
